The Kearns Cougars swam their way to a 2nd
place finish at the 2005 5A State Championships!
Jennifer Fredsall set 2
Individual State Records this weekend and helped set 2 more relay State
Records. Her Time of 23.25 in the 50 free and 54.97 in the 100 fly
place her as the fastest high school swimmer of all time from the state of
Utah in those events. She qualified as an Automatic All-American and
against last years times it would put her as #4 in the nation!!
Jennifer was selected as the Female swimmer of the year for the2nd
year in a row. She qualified for Senior Nationals this August.
Natalie Edge Won
individual state championships and set 2 new School Records in the 200 IM
and the 100 free with the times of 2:06.81 and 51.11. Qualifying her
as an Automatic All-American. Natalie only missed the state record
in the 100 free by 2 tenths of a second and in the 200 IM by 6 tenths of a
second. She is only a sophomore!
Jennifer and Natalie Were Joined by Timbrell Huff
and Christie Bergesen
to set a new state record in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:36.59.
With Megan Raby in
place of Christie in the 400 free relay they set ANOTHER state record with
a time of 3:32.07. Qualifying both relay teams as Automatic
All-American.
Todd Bradley, Isaac McElhaney, Albert Kang, and
Cory McLaughlin set a new KHS record in the 200
medley relay, placing 2nd just behind Skyline .04 of a second.
qualifying them for All-American Consideration.
Todd Bradley was the
State Champion in the 100 back with a time of 53.94 and 2nd in the 100
free with a time of 48.53.
Albert Kang set a new
KHS record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 101.50. placing him 3rd
and he also finished 2nd in the 100 fly with a time of 53.83.
The girls medley relay team of Megan Raby,
Stephanie Fredsall, Christie Bergesen, and Cindy Ludwig
got a 3rd place finish, the boys 200 free relay of Cory
McLaughlin, Albert Kang, Justin Christensen and David
Chandler placed 2nd. the boys 400 free
relay of
Todd
Bradley, Adam Huff, Tyson Heath, and David Chandler
placed 3rd.
Other medal winners were Megan Raby (5th 200 free, 6th in the 100 free).
David Chandler (4th 200 free, 5th 500 free). Timbrell ! Huff (4th 50
free, 4th 100 free). Christie Bergesen (5th 100 fly, 2nd 100
breast). Lauren Stapley (4th 500 free), Justin Christensen (6th 100
back). Stephanie Fredsall (3rd 100 breast), Cindy Ludwig (5th 100
breast). Isaac McElhaney (4th 100 breast).
Other Outstanding performances were Shandi Kelbaugh (200 free-9th
100 back-13th). Chalece Christensen (200 free 14th and 100 free
12th). Seth Drury (200 free 16th). Tyson Heath (200 IM 10th, 100 fly
8th). Adam Huff (200 IM 11th, 100 free 13th). Jinger Crump
(15th 50 free, 15th 100 breast). Cory McLaughlin (10th 50 free, 10th
100 free).

Freshman Natalie Edge breaks two19 year old records in the
100 Freestyle and the 200 Freestyle
Swim team Results from state 2002-2003
Senior Ozzie Gardner was state champion in the 50 free and 100 free. Made
all-American for the 3rd year in a row, and was named the male swimmer of
the year for the 2nd year in a row. He set a new school, and 5A
state record in the 100 free.
Sophomore Jennifer Fredsall was state champion in the 50 free and 100 fly
and made all-American in both events. Setting new school records in both
events.
Junior Stan Wirtz place 3rd in both the 50 free and 100 free and made all
American in the 100 free.
Junior Maddie Stapley placed 3rd in the 200 free and 2nd in the 100 free.
Albert Kang placed 6th in the 200 free and 11th in the 500 free.
The relay teams of Maddie Stapley, Christie Bergesen, Timbrell Huff, and
Jennifer Fredsall made all-American and set 2 new school records for the
girls 200 medley relay, and girls 200 free relays.
The boys relay teams of Ozzie Gardner, Albert Kang, Cory McLaughlin, David
Johnston, Stan Wirtz made all-American in both the 200 free and 400 free
relays, setting a school record in the 400 free relay.
9th graders Timbrell Huff, Christie Bergesen, Cory McLaughlin,
Todd Bradley, Isaac McElhaney, Cindy Ludwig, Lauren Stapley all
contributed significantly by scoring well in their events.
Sophomores Tyson Heath, and seniors Robert Stovall and Alex Espejo stepped
up and scored in the 100 fly.
Juniors Matt Huff, and senior Claire Krarup also placed high in the
100 fly.
Jess Jones moved up from 24th to 13th place and had a lifetime
best time to score points in the 100 breast. Senior Josh Horrocks also
scored in the breastroke, as well as Junior Matt Huff.
The team placed 3rd in the girls and 4th in the boys. GREAT JOB SWIMMERS!
