Kearns Youth Aquatic Team
Kearns Youth Aquatic Team (KYAT) is a swim team administered by the Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center, sanctioned by USA Swimming, and supported by the KYAT Parents Booster Club. KYAT was formed in 1966 when the Kearns Pool was built, making it one of the oldest teams in the state. The team currently consists of about 150 swimmers from all over the west side of the Salt Lake Valley. KYAT has a long tradition of excellence, evident in the team’s trophy case. But more important, the team has a long tradition of providing youth with a positive experience and teaching skills helpful for life. One of the main goals of KYAT is that the swimmers learn the importance of hard work, dedication, responsibility, teamwork, overcoming disappointments, self motivation, and other important “life skills.” Swimmers will also have the opportunity to meet many new friends, get great exercise, and have a lot of fun. Coaches use drills and training principles to help the swimmers improve their technique, speed, and endurance in the four competitive strokes - freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Through these principles, the coaches provide an opportunity for each swimmer to achieve his/her maximum potential in competitive swimming. Competitive swimming is a great activity and one of the most prestigious sports in the United States and the rest of the world.
Mission Statement
To provide an opportunity for every athlete to achieve their maximum potential in the sport of competitive swimming. To build confidence, pride, comradery and discipline in team members, and to provide a safe, fun and positive atmosphere to accomplish these goals.
